Diagnostic Mammography in Pooler, GA
A diagnostic mammogram is performed to further investigate any abnormal or questionable findings from a screening mammogram. You may also receive a diagnostic mammogram if you are experiencing breast symptoms, such as a painful area, lump or nodule, or unusual nipple discharge.
Your experience during a diagnostic mammogram will be very similar to a screening mammogram. A diagnostic mammogram is conducted in the same manner as a screening but gives our radiologist, Dr. Wilder, more views of the breasts.
It is important to be aware that having a diagnostic mammogram is not the same as a breast cancer diagnosis. Approximately 10-15% of all screening mammograms result in the need for a diagnostic mammogram or breast ultrasound. Also, about 80% of diagnostic mammograms are benign findings.
While there are many reasons that a patient may need a diagnostic mammogram, you can be assured of quality and compassionate care each time you visit The Center for Women’s Health. Please contact us at (912) 303-5470 for appointments.
